An absolutely fabulous fully rebuilt 10 spline Series Split Nose with brand new GENUINE LR 4.7 CWP Gearset


We bought in a huge amount of Brand new GENUINE Land Rover 4.7:1 (Series LR Ratio) Gearsets, which were supplied to the military with unbelivable anti corrosion packaging (see photo !) So, to expand on what this unit is :

1st, this is a early 'Split Nose' Casing

These are a 2 piece casing, the benefits are that they are better quality (we actually did a video of all the various LR Long Nose casings from the 1st in late 1948, right through all the
differing varinats - and guess what ?... Yup, they simply got WORSE as the years and changes occurred, with obvious cost cutting being at the top of the planning list....)
Sooo, these 'early casing are stronger, have a lovely brass filer plug that you can use to get oil in to the axle way easier than the rear axle case pan filler :O) - and also the 'Nose'
of the casing has a bolt on / removable nose piece holding the Pinion seal, which is another lovely touch - which LR deleted quite quickly !

This unit - even with the nose bolt on bit - is the same (just better) than the later 'Full Size / one piece' type casing - and will fit ANY Long nose series LR axle

that requires a 10 spline center, and a 4.7:1 CWP ratio (so not early Range rover - nor early 10 spline 90s etc - whilst they are 10 spline they are not the Series 4.7s they are 3.54s )

This basically has had all new bearings, a BRAND New genuine LR CW&P in 4.7 Ratio, and has been rebuilt using all original parts like the Tablocks on the CW Bolts and Nose, lock wire on the
carrier caps, we have reused all the original bolts having ultra sonic cleaned them and then repolihed them, new Original Drive flange new seal, and so on.

The idea of this unit is that it is pretty much now as it was when it left the factory, totally original spec build, so if you are looking for serious originality - then this ticks every box

We have a 2nd one of these planned - which may be listed below - this will have all modern 'Upgraded Bolts' etc, where you are looking for better / stronger build spec, and way less originality

As for this crown wheel and pinion - take a look at the care the unit came packed - says much about old school qualitity and the insistance of the military to having it wrapped properly !
if only such care and quality control existed in 2026, you wouldn't belive how LR Genuine Crown wheels are shipped to us - we can't even belive it !

And even more amazingly - you can still buy new genuine LR Series 4.7 CWPs gearsets - (The pattern ones are all absolutely awful quality) and the Genuines are around £600 + VAT !!!!!
So, here you go, a properly rebuilt Series Differential, new 4.7:1 series Genuine Crown Wheel and pinion, built to original specs - and will be (poosibly the only) silent unit on your 4x4.

Be VERY careful if you buy this - Make SURE its what you want !! 1949 Super Long Nose

WARNING - Yes it is a 10 spline 4.7 Ratio diff - BUT - this is a Rare 'Super Long Nose' from circa 1949 - which is absolutely unique to ONLY early - VERY EARLY 80" Series 1s

The identifying difference is the very long Drive flange, but as diffs go so much is internally unique to these units - made by LR for less than 2 years...

So, unless you know what this is move on and do not but it, not suitable for any LR Post late 49, and defo not series 2 or 3 etc...

Condition wise, well considering its nearly 80 years old its pretty good, plan were to completely strip and refurbish, but we were so busy we never got around to it, and also
if I am brutally honest I sort of forgot I had it , maybe 11 years back when I bought it !

Its the 4.7:1 Ratio, and the entire diff feels pretty smooth, and the CWP gearset looks pretty damned good too, considering the price for the pattern ones new I would myself cleaned it up
and gone with it, otherwise the price would have been £1000 on top for the CWP over just bearings and whatever else.

But - Its all there absolutely complete and looks better in the flesh than these 2 x pics !

Finding one of these that isn't an absolute basket case is tricky at best - and to be honest I have priced it pretty damned low to sell.....

It now sits on my office desk, and I admire it every time I go to do work, I'll keep it until it sells, hell I might even want to know plans for it - more an adoption than a sale !! .....

And no, .....I don't expect an exchange unit LOL ....outright purchase...... and I am sure this will make someones day when they find it :O)

Pre Loved Detriot 10 spline Auto Locking Differential plus LAND ROVER 4.7 Ratio CWP. PL105

Here we have a really nice low mileage (been in storage for years) Detriot 10 spline 'AutoLocker'.

This has been stripped and rebuilt into a Split Nose Series Casing (fits Series 1 2s or 3s) with a 4.7:1 Ratio CWP (Standard Series Ratio)

We have kept everything on the outside that is 'Visible' Original with new lock tabs etc even repolished original bolts + new dust sheild and new drive flange and seal etc, but on the inside we have upgraded the CWP Bolts to FTC5150 12.9 Grade for more strength being it's now a Detriot !.

We have also upgraded the Carrier cap bolts again with 12.9 Grade bolts and Nordlock washers - again for additional strength - Detriot do Grip you know !!

Rarely do we get these units in this sort of condition, a really nice unit for not a huge amount of £s

If you have a desire for a really nice new diff giving you some serious Grip in your 10 spline rear axle (NEVER EVER FIT IN A FRONT !)..then ... here you go !!
