An absolutely fabulous fully rebuilt 10 spline Series Split Nose with brand new GENUINE LR 4.7 CWP Gearset
We bought in a huge amount of Brand new GENUINE Land Rover 4.7:1 (Series LR Ratio) Gearsets, which were supplied to the military with unbelivable anti corrosion packaging (see photo !) So, to expand on what this unit is :
1st, this is a early 'Split Nose' Casing These are a 2 piece casing, the benefits are that they are better quality (we actually did a video of all the various LR Long Nose casings from the 1st in late 1948, right through all the differing varinats - and guess what ?... Yup, they simply got WORSE as the years and changes occurred, with obvious cost cutting being at the top of the planning list....) Sooo, these 'early casing are stronger, have a lovely brass filer plug that you can use to get oil in to the axle way easier than the rear axle case pan filler :O) - and also the 'Nose' of the casing has a bolt on / removable nose piece holding the Pinion seal, which is another lovely touch - which LR deleted quite quickly ! This unit - even with the nose bolt on bit - is the same (just better) than the later 'Full Size / one piece' type casing - and will fit ANY Long nose series LR axle that requires a 10 spline center, and a 4.7:1 CWP ratio (so not early Range rover - nor early 10 spline 90s etc - whilst they are 10 spline they are not the Series 4.7s they are 3.54s ) This basically has had all new bearings, a BRAND New genuine LR CW&P in 4.7 Ratio, and has been rebuilt using all original parts like the Tablocks on the CW Bolts and Nose, lock wire on the carrier caps, we have reused all the original bolts having ultra sonic cleaned them and then repolihed them, new Original Drive flange new seal, and so on. The idea of this unit is that it is pretty much now as it was when it left the factory, totally original spec build, so if you are looking for serious originality - then this ticks every box We have a 2nd one of these planned - which may be listed below - this will have all modern 'Upgraded Bolts' etc, where you are looking for better / stronger build spec, and way less originalityAs for this crown wheel and pinion - take a look at the care the unit came packed - says much about old school qualitity and the insistance of the military to having it wrapped properly ! if only such care and quality control existed in 2026, you wouldn't belive how LR Genuine Crown wheels are shipped to us - we can't even belive it !
And even more amazingly - you can still buy new genuine LR Series 4.7 CWPs gearsets - (The pattern ones are all absolutely awful quality) and the Genuines are around £600 + VAT !!!!! So, here you go, a properly rebuilt Series Differential, new 4.7:1 series Genuine Crown Wheel and pinion, built to original specs - and will be (poosibly the only) silent unit on your 4x4.
