There are a range of ways to Megasquirt your engine, the choice is wide,.. but 'MS1 V3 with 029V' software is a well respected &well trodden route. As such it has been (and will be for some time) the choice for myself and many others. There is quite a following of fellow squirters on www.lr4x4.com, where there is wealth of help and support.
However, there are some things you are going to need :
- A Rover V8 (There are many variants - hence the tabs on this site showing engine options as links)
- 1 x Suitable Megasquirt V8 Trigger Wheel - to match your engine pulley type
- 1 x 'EDIS 8' Unit (Electronic Distributorless Ignition System) & a Plug with wires (to join to your harness)
- 2 x 'Coil Packs' (Suggested FORD G1s as excellent waterproof joints and easy to find and replace)
- 2 x Coil Pack 'Plugs' - either with 'Plugs & pigtails' or better Plug with all new pins and seals.
- A Megasquirt 'ECU' Unit (Either Fully Built,.... or for you to Build)
- A 'Lambda' 4 wire heated Narrow Lambda Sensor (and no, they are not "All the same")
- A 'MAT' (Manifold Air Temperature Sensor) -Ours is calibrated for our ECUs without needing software changes
- A CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) - any Rover V8 up to late 'THOR' Units will be OK
- A VR Sensor (Variable Resistance Sensor) - For Our Trigger Wheel
- Various 'Megasquirt-V8' Brackets, to hold the 2 x Coils, VR Sensor, MAT Sensor, and Lambda Sensor unit
- Major Wiring changes, or make yourself a loom, or Buy a Megasquirt V8 Custom loom Kit
- New Plug leads to suit Ford Coil Packs to Rover V8 Plugs and the right lengths !
- Possibly a Megasquirt 'Shunt Kit' (Used if when you start your engine it refuses to turn 'off' on the key ! )
- Beer .....and some patience..and More Beer
And Maybe some 'nice to haves' .............
- A PWM Unit (In simple terms an "Auto Choke" ) plus Hoses & (see Optional Extras)
- A Megasquirt V8 "Dinky Dizzy" - Helps with the waterproofing, and essential on 3.9 Serpentine Conversions
- A Wiring Relay Board Kit - Helps with a wiring install and makes the job even easier - (see Optional Extras)
- A 'Stim' Kit - Plug into the ECU and its a pretend engine, great for learning, tuning, and if Building (See Optional Extras)
- More beer on hand
